


This worked for me so I hope this will help other people with this problem. I still have all the effects of the 8.1 update but I have my brightness settings back and I can fully return to the right screen display I had before. 9GHz CPU with Intel Graphics For Dell Inspiron 15 3542/17 5748/14 3442 Motherboard System. Control Panel > Device Manager > Display Adapters > Intel HD Graphics 4000 > Driver. I already tried updating the display adapter to the new and improved Intel HD Graphics 4000 (but that is the problem) So I reverted it back to the previous display adapter. 0 Ultra HD/4K Triple Display Docking Station (D3100), Black. Its not dim enough to be unusable, but its dim. Nothing I did worked until just a few minutes ago. swindmiller (on another thread) was nice enough to post a version of the Intel HD 4000 graphics driver not the absolute newest but it's what I'm using now and it works with adaptive brightness off I installed this driver manually before finding help with adaptive brightness now I'm not sure if the advice to install the driver manually was even. I looked at many forums and tried addressing the problem myself. Hi, I also had this same problem but my screen was so dim I could hardly see anything.
